i arrived in paris around 11am and waited for my bags, joking with the man who was next to me on the plane ride over. of particular nervous amusement was the sign which proudly declared that all untended bags were liable to destruction just in case they were in fact bombs disguised as tacky american luggage. unfortunately, i had the distinct impression that this rule had come about through reaction rather than initial prevention.
