anecdotes and liner notes:

Stuff I Like, in no particular order, rhyme or reason.

Outside Lookin' Inside, The Tubes

This probably has no place here, but it's goofy and I like it. And nobody, except for Funkster, has heard it.

Rilly Groovy, Beautiful People

Who knew that Jimmy Hendrix played good guitar?

Help Me Somebody, Brian Eno and David Byrne

Everybody knows about Eno's ambient stuff, and a variety of nonsense from Mr. Byrne.  Hardly anyone seems to have heard anything from "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts", from where this track comes.

Standard White Jesus, Timbuk3

I could have done 60 minutes of Timbuk3 stuff that nobody's heard of, and oughta.

Beatles Zebra Crossing?, Shriekback

I figure that all music collections should have a song about a crosswalk.

The Border Crossing, Timbuk3

This is probably my favorite Timbuk3 track of all time.  Barbara K's guitar work is very lovely.

Good and Evil, David Byrne

One of the great things about David Byrne is that he's done so many different musical directions, you can always pull something out of your hat that's good in a collection.

Excellent Birds, Laurie Anderson

You may have heard the Peter Gabriel version of this same song.

All My Love Is Gone, Lyle Lovett

I love Lyle Lovett's stuff.  Some of his most beautiful work never gets any airplay though.

True Dreams Of Wichita, Soul Coughing

Amongst geeks, Soul Coughing may be overdone. I think this track was underrated.

You Don't Even Live Here, Negativland

I almost didn't put this one in, on account of the atonal negativlandness at the end, but I love the track otherwise.  On occasional, I think they had some inspired music.

Stink (Short Version), John Lurie

Once upon a time, I theorized that everybody should be able to have their own personal soundtracks playing as they went about their business.  This track would definitely be part of my soundtrack. Alas, Mr. Travolta beat me to it using it in Get Shorty.

Assholes on Parade, Timbuk3

Pretty sure you've never heard this one on the radio.

In The Future, David Byrne

In the future, all music collections will be free.  In the future, music will be very expensive.
