i arrived in paris around 11am and waited for my bags, joking with the
man who was next to me on the plane ride over. of particular nervous
amusement was the sign which proudly declared that all untended bags
were liable to destruction just in case they were in fact bombs
disguised as tacky american luggage. unfortunately, i had the distinct
impression that this rule had come about through reaction rather than
initial prevention.
